The concept of circular economy is now debated in mainstream media. In this debate article in Dagens Nyheter, authors from companies, unions and universities, among them Johan Rockström and Anders Wijkman, are discussing the possibilities for Sweden to change towards a more circular national economy.

Their argument is that we are going from an industrial society to one where technology and climate change will be far more important. The labor debate in Sweden though is still left in the old era with conservative opinions and wisdoms.

The authors have reached five recommendations for steering society towards more circularity:

1.     Develop renewable energy

2.     Increase requirements to recycle

3.     Encourage new business models where services are at the center

4.     Tax reform, lower on labor and higher environmental taxes

5.     Abolish VAT on recycled material
